3 Days in Seville: The Ultimate Celiac-Safe Gluten-Free Travel Guide

Picking up right where we left off on our Cordoba Day Trip Guide, we hopped on the high-speed train and rolled into Seville at the end of our long travel day.

Traveling with Celiac Disease is normally its own beast, especially after a very long, jam-packed day like our day trip to Cordoba. By the end of the train ride, we were starving, and, luckily, Seville is one of the best gluten free locations. We almost ended up ordering in pizza from Grosso, but thank goodness we didn’t (not that Grosso is a bad spot… it is actually so good we went twice in our 10 day trip!). We ended up mustering the strength to get out of the AirBnB to try what was to be one of the best meals of our trip…

Night 1: Arrival & Our Absolute Favorite Meal of the Trip

Señora Pan

Señora Pan guava hoisin chicken wings over Brazilian couscous

Upon arriving in Seville, we dropped our bags off to our AirBnB and made our way straight  to Señora Pan, and it ended up being, hands down, our favorite meal of the entire trip.

Señora Pan is a 100% gluten-free spot, which meant the moment we sat down, my usual cross-contamination anxiety just completely went away, which was perfect for a final meal to a long day. Our exhausted feet dragged inside the restaurant and immediately, the lively and upbeat vibe of the restaurant brought us back to life. The owner was our server, and he was so incredibly welcoming and made the evening ever better. This spot takes traditional Spanish tapas and elevates them into something modern and delicious - you can even see it in the guava hoisin chicken wings on Brazilian couscous (gluten free couscous - didn’t even know that existed until I sat here)!!! AHHH I am still dreaming about that chicken wing! Since this spot was sooo good, let me tell you everything we ate:

  • TEQUEÑOS: A massive hit! These were HUGE and we were literally fighting over the last one!

  • MINI AREPITAS: The beef one was amazing! I must admit, I don’t like creamy mayo looking sauces, so when the second one came out with a creamy interior, Ethan gobbled it for us. I’m sure that was really hard for him — he said it was delicious!

  • FRESH EGG TRUFFLE PASTA: INCREDIBLE. So fresh, delicious, and packed with truffle flavor! I feel like most spots are stingy about the truffle and truffle flavor, but not here. The fresh made pasta and extra truffle had us tasting the love that was poured into it.

  • GUAVA HOISIN CHICKEN WINGS over Brazilian Couscous: The absolute star of the night—we were literally dancing while eating this! The gluten-free couscous-style base paired with fall off the bone, perfectly seasoned wings was so unique and flavorful, nothing else could top it! 🍗💃

  • BROWNIE with Rum Raisin & Coconut Ice Cream: Even though we ended the night totally stuffed, dessert was a non-negotiable end to an incredible meal!

We went back to our AirBnb thoroughly stuffed, satisfied, happy, and sleeeeepy!

Day 1: Pastries, Royal Palaces & Sunset Views

Breakfast at Chok

We woke up early the next morning and went straight to Chok, a dedicated bakery that quickly became our daily obsession.

Chok Bakery in Seville

We split two sweet rolls: an apple one and a pistachio one. I was absolutely obsessed with the pistachio roll it was light but rich, nutty, and just ridiculously good. Like you heard me mention before, creamy sauces aren’t my style and that includes cream cheese. I had no idea the pastry was slightly and softly cream cheese topped, but the fact it didn’t bother me realllyyy spoke to how good this sweet treat really was for me. That being said, for my dairy-free friends, be aware there is a lot more cream cheese based items in this bakery.

I paired my roll with a delicious coffee while Ethan got tea - so cute I know. Knowing we had a full day ahead, we also grabbed a few things to go for later: a couple of slices of gluten free pizza and a pistachio rookie (an insanely delicious cookie with a cinnamon roll center… didn’t even know that existed either).

Wandering Seville & Lunch in the Park

We spent the rest of the morning taking it easy and exploring the city on foot. We spent hours wandering through Barrio de Santa Cruz, getting happily lost in Seville's impossibly thin, gorgeous alleyways, checking out the Cathedral de Sevilla and La Giralda, and stopping into little shops for souvenirs. One thing about us is we love a good souvenir stroll and some window shopping.

By lunchtime, we took our takeout pizza slices from Chok over to Murillo Gardens. While the pizza was a little heavier on the cheese than we normally prefer, the crust itself was remarkably light and fluffy with a great savory sauce. It was an amazing option for lunch, especially as it was causal and let’s enjoy the sights and park relaxation while being on the go. Please note, I am not sure they have pizza all day long, which is why we got it right when we saw it out during breakfast time. I would highly recommend not waiting until later (lunchtime) to go back for their pizza - full send it.

Tour of the Royal Alcázar of Seville

We had a guided tour booked for the Royal Alcázar of Seville, and I am so glad we did! Having a guide walk us through the intricate Mudéjar architecture, lush courtyards, and history made the entire experience so much richer. It gave us such great context for the Moorish history of Andalusia—which was the perfect setup for the next leg of our trip when we head to Granada to see the Alhambra.

Sunset at Plaza de España

After the Alcázar, we strolled through Parque de María Luisa and made our way to Plaza de España.

We timed it perfectly for sunset. As the last golden light hit the tiled bridges and historic brickwork, we pulled out that pistachio rookie we’d been hauling around from Chok all day. Eating that insanely good pastry with a front-row view of the plaza as the sun went down was an absolute core memory.

Dinner at Mano de Santo

For dinner, we headed to Mano de Santo, a 100% gluten-free Mexican spot. Finding safe Mexican food on the road where you don't have to worry about shared fryers or flour tortilla contamination is an absolute dream. We filled up on incredible tacos and fresh flavors before walking home to rest up for another travel day.

Day 2: One Last Pastry Run & Heading to Granada

The next morning, we grabbed breakfast from... you guessed it, Chok! We bought a whole stash of extra baked goods for the road, walked over to the Seville Santa Justa station, and boarded our train to the next stop on our trip: Granada.
